ah fresh print

I've come across some quality magazines of late.

Transworld SKATEBOARDING October 2009 issue; has an epic set of editorial style skate shoots, custom made parks including a miniture cardboard city, cars in the mist and darkness, an illustrated backdrop etc..

Desktop October 2009 features a few decent articles on design process.

Lifelounge issue 13 features a Martha Cooper interview, a kings way interview, some sweet sweet photos and Santa Cruz's Sultan; Jim Phillips. Well worth a look.

Monster Children issue 24 is a bit thicker, full of Where the Wild Things Are features and the usual quality items.

WUW (what ever you want) volume 1 is a new and very cool magazine. Features graphics, illustration, photography, 3D desing, fine art, architecture and typography. Allllll the good stuff that you probebly need to fill you with ideas. It's a smaller size that your average magazine which makes it feel just a little bit more special.

IdN self promotion issue, the title alone speaks for itself. Quality info and insights. I found it vuryy helpful.

3D project and lack of sleep

Yo! this is my attempt at designing a 10 storey + mezzanine office building scale model, to give a client an understanding of the building, rather than them struggling with the interpretation of a 2D layout. Didnt quite get to where I was aiming, but the graphic quality and imagination looks to be setting me up for a good mark.
I'd write more about how I met the breif requirements, my research, why i chose to blah blah blah but im DEAD TIRED from pulling an all nighter to finish this badboy.
z'clock tiemz! into my dopamine i go.

Symbolic Subversion and the Writing on the Wall.

"It should come as no paradigmatic revelation that culture has reached a point where if Charlse Saatchi commisioned me to take a shit in the middle of his gallery, it would be considered art, at least within the cultural institutions and media that establish it's definitions. If he didn't pay me I would be arrested."

Went to Newtown/Enmore on Saturday to watch Big City Freaks paint as well as CRAZY KADE. There's some flicks on my flickr www.flickr.com/papajrmy for you to have a look see.

Was a good cold day that went really hot and sunny then annoyingly windy. I wanted to go again today, but alas, I have a research assignment which I'm currently neglecting... ahaha! Back to work I go. Enjoy and comment!

Design course update

so i havnt posted since my 3D project, and i've been doing well. nothing below 85% and a 92% mark for my "CREATURE" fairly stoked. but im not surprised, i put in the effort.

but on to new things. My next 3D project is a 10 storey scale model of an office building for North Sydney by the water. My initial designs are coming along and this weekend I'm missing out on Graffiti in newtown bcz I've bought the materials to make my model, so I'm working on it.

Or taking the money from someone who doesnt deserve it to go and photograph/hang out with BCF and watch some amazing artwork.

here's some flicks of my recent portraits for my colour and media class.

both drawn by me, using studio pencils+copic markers on bleedproof paper for the self portrait and just studio colours on cartridge paper for the fashion babe.
the photos arent good, but I'm not being picky today. I just want to show you some illustrations of mine. :) enjoy and comment!

my back aches, but so worth it!

From creating this signage model for my 3D design class. The brief says; bright, bold, colourful, shapped, textured and well designed. ...make the individual characters enticing, fun to look at, to grab and hold interest. ...With characters relating to the meaning of the word, for example "VAMPIRE" must look "VAMPIREISH" Good construction and a presentation; this will be presented to the class. Do you think I'll pass? ahaha.
Mediums used:
-Felt
-Foam sheets
-Googley eyes
-Foam core
-Cellophane
-LOTS of double sided tape
-Kids microfibre socks
-Scotch tape.
+alot of scalpel and scissor work.
Hours taken; ALOT!
I love my life :)

Flicks by me, JRMY! all copyright blah blah blah reserved.

Good! closely followed by evil...

I'm soon to move out of my Dad's place that I've been using for the first 6 months since I moved from Coffs. It's all really exciting and what not, I'm about to get more money from the govt...WOO! Youth allowance! I'll be in a granny flat, in a house, as opposed to a caravan..ugh. I'm prettykeen to redecorate the place, make it my own..you know, graffiti on the walls, posters, photos, a pair of jeans on the floor, fill the bookcase with cameras, boxes, paint.. cant wait. But there's one majorrr dilema. I have no car to get to the train station. I have to get a bus that only comes every hour. It's a more direct bus, but still, a bus. I fucking hate the bus where I live. I just plain dont like the bus in general. If I could get a train everywhere, nice and direct, then i would. So a car right about now would be epic! I could even go for that drive down the south coast I've been planning. Gotta have a cornering machine to do that ;) I could drive down to St Marys, pick up my girlfriend, introduce her to the backseat... ohhhh yeah. Problem is though, unless I can find a beast for $200 or less, I wont be doing anything of the sort. I'll be getting the bus. The slow, seats so close together if a...portly person sits in front I end up tasting my own testicles for the whole journey, juttery, lack of padding, upright, cold, loud, rattelly buses.

That's my 6am rant. I'm going to clean my teeth now...and get a lift to the train station. Enjoy it while it lasts! Papa out!

Mother of Pearl!

I'm just stoked on life right now. My design course feels so right. I'm definetly going to do the diploma course next year. Most likely at Enmore. It'll be annoying to get the...2 and a half hour train there, but all worthwhile in the end. Flexing my creativity never felt so good. I wish I'd done this sooner, although the HSC wasnt a waste of time. I have been using the skills I acquired through not avoiding study. :)

Bought $77 worth of copic markers and bleedproof paper.
This is the result + some baadddd shopped in black background:
Enjoy!

while i should be getting ready

I'm writing this while i should be getting ready to go to Newcastle. Meh! Had to show my next 2 letters in my "creature" assignment.

I made the rabbit "T" (uncomplete; needs feet and a tail) out of microfbre kids socks from hot dollar and the ears from felt.

The lion is mostly felt. Still working bits out on it, but coming along nicely :)

flicks by me. JRMY!

Creature 3D assignment

this is my "C" in "creature". Not complete yet in these flicks. So much fun. ahaha! ily double sided tape!! In the second from the top flick he looked a little dog like and cutesy, so i added another 4 eyes and covered those "freackles".

The breif is to create a bold, shaped, textured, colourful, well designed word that would suit the Luna Park environment.

Wait till you see the rest of the letters ;)

Rabbits, lions, blob aliens, slugs, crocodiles, and another reptile... possibly..the last letter just needs to have scales.

right now

Photograph sorting for "Making a Name" 2009 @ "SNARL"s open studio.
Sketchs of my shoe for my first 2D assignment.
Sony alpha gear out on the table.
Gouache, oh how hard you are to use.
Juice box wallet.

Quotes in a sketch book:
"Declare today a holiday"
"It will just fall into place."
"Facebook; Nothing to do visually..Nothing is secret.. Where's the excitement?"
"...it's that instant gratification thing. It's not challenging enough and people are becoming satisfied with bad stuff... you know?"

"LOZIL ONE"

Lozil's own owl design. My outlines for her.

So a while ago now, Lozil and I had an idea for her to paint a piece. We bought paint and it sat around for ages...we're very busy people. BUT! today she came to stay @ my place and we painted together. We went out for dinner later. Found a nice wall and the bug has struck. Gotta love lifeee. :) and lozil. :) :)

changing lanes

flick from mashSF.

My speedy, reliable, protection from rain and wind has been taken from me. : Dad got his license back, and with it he took ownership of his car back. So now I'm on the old 2 wheel peddler, on the side of the road, the bike lane.

It's a track bike which I fixed up. It's got straight bars instead of curling, and has been stripped of any decals, reflectors, and other annoying bits. It's all streamlined, haha. Black wheels, red frame. All I need now is some nice pedals and grips. :)

Now I'll be riding to all my mysterious activities...

:D
