designs and drawings

I've recently applied for a design fundementals course @ TAFE in Hornsby. To get into the course I needed to complete a "test" and the result is above. 4 postage stamps featuring famous australian landmarks. Only after completing these designs in a short, short time, I re-read the requirements and realised I had made them the wrong dimensions, but with no time to recreate them. So these designs will hopefully show that I have the talent, I just dont have the schooling. Combine the two and they'll be proud to have had me in the course.

Posca on glass. Doodling @ Ryan's place in St Marys. haha. My wrmabbbit character is a potential tattoo. just gotta have the spare cash to get it. copyrighted and shit so dont bother theiving. i'll know you did. im shneaky. ;) papa out.

Weekend's with Lozil

The weekends I spend with Lauren are always entertaining.
Last weekend we took my camera and walked through the Royal Botanical Gardens and Hyde Park. Lozil's flower photos have become her new hobby and will more than likely go up on her blog @ http://www.laurenlefflermua.blogspot.com/

but here are shots I took + some featuring me by lozil.

I spent a night on the streets of Sydney

After an epic day of skate and paint, I'd gone late night shopping with Lozil @ Parramatta Westfield. It was all fun and games until 8pm came. It takes roughly 3.5hours to get to the bus which is another hour to where I'm staying. The last bus from Wyong station where I get off is at 12.45am. Which was alrite. I was going to make it. I bought a ticket to Hornsby from Parramatta as that's where I have to change trains and I'd stop to get something to eat.
However, I got to Hornsby and the train to Newcastle which would take me to Wyong was coming in 7 minutes. So I got on it without getting a ticket. Just before Cowan (middle of nowhere) Transit officers started checking tickets. I told the dude that I'd misplaced my ticket after frantically searching for something that wasnt there. He began writing out the $200 fine. Fuck. I grabbed the ticket to Hornsby and smiled. "We havn't passed Hornsby have we?" The dude said it was 5 stops ago and that if I'd missed my stop he wouldnt fine me. I told him my travel intentions were to stay @ a friend's place in Hornsby. So off the train @ Cowan and just narrowly avoiding a fine, I waited for the only train back to Hornsby. So I was stuck till 4am with little money.
I went to coles and bought some donuts to cheer me up and some fruit for the morning ahead. I decided it wouldnt be safe to stay @ Hornsby and that I'd be guarenteed to meet up with more tranist officers on that line. So I skated and walked along the pacific highway towards the city.
I'd skated down the left lane of the road because it was smoother than the footpath and I gained ALOT of speed. Most cars past me on the right, but one rude prick taxi didnt move. I jumped into the grass on the side of the road. "YA DUMB SKATER C**T"
I officially hate taxi drivers.
Back on my board and on some smoother paths, I gained speed again and met my maker at the bottom of the hill. A gap sent me, with the weight of my bag assisting, onto my hands, shoulder and knees very hard on the bitchumen. I shook it off, relieved my jeans didnt rip and got back on my board.
I made it to the turn off for Ryde and talked to some road workers who'd decided they'd talk in Irish accents that night. I saw through them, but asked which was closer, West Ryde or Chatswood. Naturally they gave me directions to the nearest station, Gordon. I continued on, picking up a newly delived local directory and found out that Chatswood was much, much closer.
Eventually I arrived, hot and sweaty and in the freezing cold.
I sat around for a while until a security guard got sick of watching me or something and bought me a ticket to the city which I could use on the night rider bus, which came at 4am. It was 3.30am at the time. I'd travelled 17km (I checked the signs) and now I was waiting on a bus for 1/2 an hour.
After listening to silver service taxi drivers yell at each other through thick indian accents, "dont touch me! loook you -indian insult- shutup!" and Japanese dudes speak rapid Japanese closely followed by "this is sparta!" I got on the bus. I dossed off...
"No, agh, no sleep!" I didnt want to get lost. I eventually made it to the QVB in the city and I got out to skate down to central. The city is so eirrilly quiet and deserted at night. Like a horror movie when everyone dies and your trying to survive the hidden dangers like zombies.
A great thing about the city; the gum walked into the paths makes the ride on my skateboard very smooth and grippy.
I walked into central, dreery, sore and thirsty. The ticket gates were open so I casually walked through and got on a train to Newcastle, which left at 5.15am. I wrote "WAKE ME @ WYONG. NEED $5 FOR BUS" on the back of my hand which rested on top of my bag. The other arm I wrapped around and through the straps of my bag. I went to sleep.
2 hours later I was in Wyong waiting for a bus. I hadnt got any money from my clever stategy, so I told the driver what'd happened and he gave me a free ride home. I got here @ 8.40am.

BIGGEST DAY/NIGHT EVER.

craving

around a month ago, the registration on dad's fat falcon ran out (which i had complete use of because dad lost his licence on a d.u.i.) and I've been forced to add an hour to my journey to the city because of bus routes. not only is it incredibly frustrating when they have different schedules to their timetables and I'm left stranded some 30minutes by car from where I'm staying, but the cost and ride is wrecking my jeans.

i am desperately craving a car to use. an hour turns into 10 minutes and I'm on the train. if i had something that ran on gas, like the above 1963 Holden eh special, then I'd ditch the train, even though i dont mind it, and drive to the city cutting off another hour of my journey, and I'd be sitting in heaven. :)

but unless i were to be given a car, or given $20 000, (the Holden is $10 000 fully restored and working well and the extra $10 000 is for kicks and giggles), I'm totally screwed on that front.

mirrored years

photo manipulation: Erik Johannson

I have a unending interest in images produced by mirrored surfaces. blind spot mirrors, mirror balls, mirror spheres etc...
Expect to see photos regarding this from me in the future.

I not long ago went and viewed Yayoi Kusama's "mirrored years" at the museum of contemporary art in circular key. She had an amazing installation series of mirrors.
If you get a chance the exhibition is well worth checking out. Even if you dont like art. Her installations are a trip. Other than hundreds of mirrored spheres along the ground and blind spot mirrors on the walls of corridors, she has a 1970's room covered in purple paint and then coloured dots which when an ultraviolet light is turned on, play with your senses in an incredible way.

I would have some photos of the exhibition, but my wireless isnt being friendly today.

recent shots

After an interview with myer, my girlfriend Lauren was looking gorgeous as ever and on top of the Chatswood westfield carpark, I snapped this shot of her and the brewing rain.

Whilst I've been lurking the internets, I glanced across my dinning table that is home to my desk work and I saw this. Fairly stoked on my accumulation of stationary and reading material.

And my ever delicious apple and mango juice.

2008-2009 drawings

9 pages left in my first plain notebook moleskine (pron; mol-es-kinny).
here are some of my favorite sketches.

lights and kissable treats

goat paddock. walking down, into a spider web, heavy thud on my shoulder. freaked out and saw that it was a quite sizey spider and spent some time scaring people fishing by frantically jumping wailing my arms to get the spider off me. lauren naturally felt the same and was panicking. after a quick rundown with a torch we took these shots.
